SSANU, NASU Declare Warning Strike Over Witheld Salaries

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) announced a seven-day warning strike on Monday. The decision came as a response to the Federal Government’s failure to pay four months of withheld salaries to their members following the 2022 nationwide strike.

The resolution was reached after a meeting held in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, over the weekend by the joint action committee of both unions. The unions expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s delay in addressing the salary payment issue, which has been a point of contention since the previous strike.

This warning strike serves as a preemptive measure to pressure the government into fulfilling its obligations to university staff members. The unions have emphasized the importance of timely salary payments to ensure the welfare and livelihoods of their members.

With this declaration, SSANU and NASU are sending a clear message to the government regarding the urgency of resolving the outstanding salary payments and addressing the grievances of university staff. The outcome of this strike action will likely depend on the government’s response to the unions’ demands in the coming days.
