Supreme Court Judgment On Rivers Governorship Election ‘Astonishing’ – John Oyegun

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has described the Supreme Court judgment upholding the election of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike as “astonishing”.

He made this known in Abuja on Wednesday when a delegation of the APC in Rivers led by its gubernatorial candidate, Dakuku Peterside, paid a courtesy visit on him at the party’s National Secretariat.

While expressing surprise at the decision of the Supreme Court, Oyegun assured the delegation of the party leadership’s support to ensure that the party carries the day in subsequent elections in the state.

He said: “Your visit has had a sober effect on me. This meeting will kickstart urgent actions to address what went wrong. As at today, there are attempts by INEC to bar us from elections in Anambra and other states.

“We must address these issues. I still find the judgement on the Rivers State governorship election totally astonishing. There is something fundamentally wrong in the Judiciary. We have lost very important resource-rich states to the PDP. No matter how crude oil prices have fallen, it is still the most important revenue earner for the country.”

He also allayed the fears of the delegation, stating that the party leadership was solidly behind them.
