Supreme Court Upholds Uzodimma’s Victory in Imo State Governorship Election

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Supreme Court has delivered a final verdict, affirming Hope Uzodimma as the authentic governor of Imo State. The apex court’s decision, made on August 23, 2024, dismisses all legal challenges against Uzodimma’s re-election.

Uzodimma, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was declared the winner of the Imo State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nine months ago. He won with a total of 540,308 votes, sweeping all 27 local government areas in the state.

The Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had approached the tribunal, alleging overvoting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act. However, the tribunal and the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of Uzodimma, paving the way for the Supreme Court’s final verdict.

The Supreme Court’s decision confirms Uzodimma’s victory, solidifying his position as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
