MAKURDI, Nigeria – Suspected armed herders killed five people during an attack on the Tse Ameen community in Benue State on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Okay News reports that the Benue State Police Command confirmed the recovery of four bodies following the invasion of the village located in the Mbapa Council Ward of the Gwer West Local Government Area.
Udeme Edet, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the state command, verified the casualties during a telephone interview on Monday, April 20, 2026. She said, “The incident is confirmed, four dead bodies were recovered.”
An unnamed local resident told journalists that attackers invaded the settlement late Saturday night, leaving several residents missing. The resident said, “Five corpses, which included three males and two females, were recovered yesterday (Sunday).”
Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, hosted previously abducted passengers at the Government House on Sunday, April 19, 2026. During the meeting, the governor urged security agents to apprehend the perpetrators of the Gwer West attack.
