State House, Abuja, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the 16-member Governing Council of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State.
In a statement made available to Okay News on Monday, April 20, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, was named as the Chairman of the Council. The move is aimed at strengthening the academic and professional leadership of the nation’s premier police training institution.
The Council includes high-ranking officials and institutional representatives, ensuring a cross-section of expertise from the Police Service Commission (PSC), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, and Justice.
Geopolitical Zone Representation
To ensure national federal character, the President appointed the following individuals to represent the six geopolitical zones:

This reconstitution follows recent calls for reforms within the Academy to align its curriculum with modern global policing standards and to address administrative challenges that have faced the institution in recent years.
