Suspended Minister Betta Edu Faces EFCC Grilling Over Alleged Financial Impropriety

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has presented herself at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.

Edu arrived at the EFCC office, situated in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), around noon.

The minister has come under scrutiny following the emergence of a memo in which she purportedly instructed Oluwatoyin Madein, the Accountant-General of the Federation, to transfer the sum of N585 million to a private account.

This revelation has sparked controversy and raised concerns about financial impropriety within the ministry.

President Bola Tinubu took decisive action on Monday, suspending Betta Edu from office and directing the EFCC to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all financial transactions within her ministry.
