By Yusuf Abubakar

In a bid to enhance water supply services across Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas has set up a committee to scrutinize the operations of the Taraba State Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation (TAWASCO).

The committee, chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Yakubu Maikasuwa, will assess TAWASCO’s capacity to provide water in Jalingo and its surrounding areas.

The committee comprises key figures in the state, including Naomi Tanko Agbu (Commissioner of Energy & Economic Development), Julius Peter (Commissioner of Rural & Urban Development), Dr Sarah Enoch Adi (Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning), Mr Daniel Ishaku (Commissioner of Water Management and Aquatic), and Mrs Patricia R Dann (Permanent Secretary, Career Management), who will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee’s Terms of Reference include analyzing the revenue inflow of TAWASCO, assessing its self-sustainability, and providing recommendations on full or partial commercialization.

Additionally, the committee is mandated to propose suggestions to ensure the seamless provision of potable water in the state capital and its environs.

Governor Kefas has emphasized the importance of addressing water supply challenges in Taraba State, and the establishment of this committee reflects the government’s commitment to improving water services.

The committee has been granted a two-week timeframe to conduct a thorough evaluation and submit a comprehensive report.
