Thailand Introduces Electronic Visa Applications for Nigerians, Other African Nationals

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Nigerians planning to visit Thailand can now apply for visas electronically following the implementation of a new policy by the Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja.

The electronic visa system took effect on January 1, 2025, as the embassy announced it would no longer accept physical applications.

The new policy also applies to citizens of Ghana, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Central African Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Chad.

In a statement, the embassy emphasized that all applicants must be residing in the listed countries when applying for a visa. Applicants failing to provide evidence of their presence within these countries risk having their applications cancelled.

“Travel booking confirmation must be provided upon submission of your visa application. This includes return flight details showing the applicant’s name, departure and return date, and all flights en route from the aforementioned countries to Thailand,” the embassy said.

The statement added that visa applications would be processed within five working days, although the timeline could be extended in certain cases.

The embassy advised intending travellers to apply for their visas at least 4-6 weeks before their departure date, but not more than three months in advance.

All visa applications must be completed online via the official portal: www.thaievisa.go.th.
