‘The Law Must Take Its Course’, King Charles Says After Brother’s Arrest

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

London, UK – Britain’s King Charles III has publicly addressed the unprecedented arrest of his brother, former royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, expressing his “deepest concern” over the development. In a firm statement regarding the allegations of misconduct in public office, the monarch distanced the crown from the scandal and declared that “the law must take its course”.

Okay News reports that the King issued his formal response on Thursday, February 19, 2026, pledging the royal family’s wholehearted support and cooperation with law enforcement. King Charles emphasized the necessity of a “full, fair and proper process” to ensure the issue is investigated transparently and thoroughly by the appropriate authorities.

The monarch’s address comes in the wake of the arrest of the 66-year-old former United Kingdom trade envoy. Mountbatten-Windsor was taken into police custody following allegations that he shared confidential government materials with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are currently executing searches at his residence at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, alongside other properties in Berkshire.

Concluding his public remarks, King Charles stated that it would not be right for him to comment further while the legal proceedings continue. He assured the public that he and the royal family will remain focused on their duty and service to the nation. In the meantime, Mountbatten-Windsor remains in police custody pending further inquiries into the scope of his alleged official misconduct.
