Birnin Kebbi, NIGERIA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his condolences to the government and people of Kebbi State following a dual tragedy involving a deadly bandit attack in Shanga Local Government Area and the passing of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman-Zuru.
Okay News reports that the President was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the condolence visit on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The delegation arrived in the state to sympathize with Governor Nasir Idris over the recent security breach in Shanga, where bandits reportedly killed dozens of residents and security personnel in communities including Dabe and Kawara.
The visit also served to honor the memory of the late Speaker, Muhammad Usman-Zuru, who passed away on April 6, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness. The Speaker was buried in his hometown of Zuru last Thursday amidst a massive turnout of mourners.
In his response, Governor Nasir Idris expressed deep appreciation for the Federal Government’s show of solidarity. He noted that the loss of the “gallant security personnel” and the Speaker was a painful blow to the state but maintained that his administration remains resolute in securing the lives of citizens. The Governor thanked President Tinubu for the continued federal support and the assurance that everything possible is being done to tackle the evolving security challenges in the region.
