President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Bassirou Faye on his anticipated victory as Senegal’s president-elect.

The president-elect’s triumph in the closely watched Senegalese election has drawn widespread acclaim, with opposition leaders and citizens alike expressing their support for Faye.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, President Tinubu commended Faye’s leadership qualities and exemplary track record, expressing confidence in his ability to steer Senegal towards greater prosperity and progress.

While the official results are yet to be announced, preliminary tallies indicate a decisive win for Faye, affirming the aspirations of Senegalese citizens for change and renewal in their nation’s leadership.

Tinubu also applauded the outgoing Senegalese leader, Macky Sall, for overseeing an election characterized by peace and transparency.

The successful conduct of the presidential election in Senegal, alongside the recent elections in Liberia, underscores the resilience of democracy in West Africa and reflects positively on the region’s commitment to democratic principles.

As chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Tinubu highlighted the significance of Senegal’s election in advancing regional stability and fostering closer ties among member states. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support for Senegal and its people
