ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm congratulations to Rangers International FC following their victory in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), securing the domestic title for a record-tying ninth time.
The Enugu-based “Flying Antelopes” sealed the championship on a dramatic final day of the season, finishing at the top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches to edge out their closest rivals, Rivers United.
Okay News reports that the President’s commendation was contained in an official statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu praised the club’s management, players, and dedicated fanbase for their resilience throughout the campaign, while fondly recalling Rangers’ historic dominance during the 1970s and 1980s. He specifically referenced the club’s iconic continental milestones, including reaching the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977.
“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on the victory of Rangers International FC. This victory is an obvious fruit of his administration’s investments in youth and sports in the state. I commend him,” the President stated, noting that the legendary club remains one of the oldest and finest talent factories for Nigerian football.
The President also commended second-placed Rivers United for delivering an exceptional performance and displaying outstanding sportsmanship throughout the tournament. He wished both clubs the absolute best as they prepare to fly Nigeria’s flag in next season’s CAF Champions League.
