Tinubu Hails Supreme Court Judgement on Local Government Autonomy

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the constitutional rights of local governments, describing it as a historic milestone in the country’s quest for true federalism.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu said the judgement would ensure that local government officials are held accountable for their actions and inactions.

The President noted that ineffective local government administration has hindered Nigeria’s development, but expressed optimism that the Supreme Court’s decision would lead to better service delivery at the grassroots level.

He commended Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his role in the case and reiterated his administration’s commitment to building an efficient governance system that works for all Nigerians.

President Tinubu emphasized that the judgement would ensure that resources meant for local governments are used for the benefit of the people, and that local leaders are held accountable for their actions.
