Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday hosted leaders of political parties to an inter-faith Ramadan breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he reaffirmed his commitment to protecting democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.
Speaking during the gathering with members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress and the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, the President said democracy must continue to thrive in the country.
He stressed that unity and stability depend on good governance and pledged that his administration would uphold democratic principles for the benefit of future generations, Okay News reports.
Tinubu also highlighted the importance of strengthening internal democracy within political parties, noting that direct primaries allow party members to participate more actively in choosing their representatives. He reiterated his belief in democratic values, saying both majority and minority voices must be respected in a functioning system.
Meanwhile, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda commended the President’s leadership and assured him of the party’s support.
In his remarks, IPAC Chairman Yusuf Dantalle urged the President to reconsider the proposed requirement of the National Identity Number for voter registration, warning that it could exclude many eligible voters.
