Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for Ruby Onwudiwe as CBN Board Member

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a letter to the Senate, urging the confirmation of Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In the letter read during Wednesday’s plenary session in Abuja by Senate President Godswill Akpiabio, Tinubu cited the need for Onwudiwe’s confirmation in accordance with Section 10 (1) of the CBN Establishment Act 2007.

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the senate, the appointment of Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the CBN board of directors,” Tinubu stated in the letter.

“The senate is invited to kindly note that Onwudiwe is a replacement for Mr Kalu Eke, due to the unavailability of Eke for the position.

“It is my hope, therefore, that the senate will consider and confirm in its usual expeditious manner, the appointment of Onwudiwe.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

This nomination follows Tinubu’s recent request to the senate for the confirmation of five individuals as directors of the CBN board, including Robert O. Agbide, Ado Yakubu Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu.

The Senate had previously confirmed four nominees to the CBN board on February 29, after a nominee from the south-eastern region declined the offer, citing “conflict of interest.”
