By Adamu Abubakar Isa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed surprise and gratitude at his unexpected and unanimous election as the chair of the 16 West African heads of government. Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with Senate leaders, Tinubu described his new role as a call to service that demands increased effort and dedication.

Highlighting the importance of nurturing and sustaining democracy, Tinubu emphasized that genuine progress and development in Nigeria and Africa as a whole rely on the survival of democratic principles. He stressed the need to send a clear message to the international community, especially beyond Africa, that the continent is determined to succeed.

Tinubu’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, issued a statement on Thursday quoting the President’s commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities and not letting down the Nigerian people despite the prevailing challenges.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, leading a delegation to congratulate Tinubu, praised his election as a reflection of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues. Akpabio assured Tinubu of the continued support of the Senate and the entire National Assembly in achieving his vision for a more prosperous Nigeria and fulfilling his mandate as President.
