Troops Kill Two Terrorists, Rescue Four Hostages in Nigeria

ABUJA, Nigeria: The Nigerian Army eliminated two suspected terrorists, rescued four kidnapped victims, and disrupted a crude oil pipeline attack during coordinated operations across three states on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Okay News reports that the News Agency of Nigeria received operational updates detailing military deployments in Taraba, Kogi, and Rivers.

Soldiers from the 93 Battalion encountered suspected terrorists in a forested area of Akate, located in the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba. The engagement resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, magazines, and mobile phones.

In Kogi, the 21 Battalion worked alongside local vigilantes to rescue four kidnapped passengers on the Anyigba-Itobe road in the Ofu Local Government Area. The abductors abandoned the victims while attempting to cross a seasonal stream to evade advancing soldiers.

Military personnel are currently conducting search operations to locate other individuals still held in captivity.

The 12 Brigade repelled an ambush on the Kabba-Okene road, returning fire and forcing the attackers to flee with gunshot wounds.

The military released a statement regarding actions in the south concerning the protection of national infrastructure. “Meanwhile, in Rivers, troops of five battalions, acting on credible intelligence, foiled an attempt by suspected vandals to detonate a crude oil pipeline in Ahoada West Local Government Area.

“The swift response of the troops disrupted the operation before it could be executed, with the suspects fleeing the scene,” it said.
