Authorities in Borno State have arrested two female suicide bombers in connection with a deadly explosion in Gwoza that left at least 18 people dead and over 30 injured. The attack, one of the deadliest in recent months, occurred on Sunday at a wedding ceremony in Tashan Mararaba, near the Fire Service in Gwoza town.

According to a local government official, 30 female suicide bombers were sent to Gwoza to detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at different locations. Only four bombers have detonated their devices so far, with the others still at large.

The Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Barkindo Saidu, confirmed the attack and said he witnessed the first blast. The explosion occurred during a marriage ceremony, and a survivor reported that the first bomber was carrying a baby on her back when she detonated the IED.

The military has imposed a curfew in Gwoza Local Government Area following the attacks. The arrested bombers are currently undergoing interrogation, and the search for the remaining bombers continues.
