LAS VEGAS, United States — South African music star Tyla was a standout at the 2026 American Music Awards after winning two major categories at the annual ceremony held in Las Vegas.
The awards show, hosted by Queen Latifah at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Monday night, saw Tyla emerge as the top-performing African artist of the evening.
Okay News reports that the 24-year-old entertainer secured the Best Afrobeats Artist award ahead of fellow African stars Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, and Moliy.
Tyla also captured the fan-voted Social Song of the Year prize for her hit single “CHANEL,” which was released in October 2025 and has since generated more than 320 million Spotify streams while topping several international digital charts.
The singer entered the ceremony with four nominations, including recognition in the Best Music Video and Best Female R&B Artist categories. Her latest success further extends a growing list of international achievements following her Grammy win for “Water” and consecutive MTV Video Music Awards victories for Best Afrobeats Video in 2024 and 2025.
The Johannesburg-born artist is now preparing for the 2026 BET Awards in June, where she has received two nominations, including a Video of the Year nod, ahead of the expected release of her second studio album in July.
