UK Election: Rishi Sunak Congratulates Starmer on Win

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Labour Party has secured a landslide victory in the UK general election, with Keir Starmer set to become the new Prime Minister. Labour is expected to win 410 seats, while the Conservatives trail behind with 144 seats.

Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat, congratulating Starmer on his victory. Sunak acknowledged the “sobering verdict” and accepted responsibility for the Conservative Party’s losses.

Notable Conservative losses include Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, Jacob Rees-Mogg, and Penny Mordaunt. Meanwhile, Labour’s Jon Ashworth lost to an independent candidate, and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn won his seat as an independent.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and two party members won their seats, while the Green Party’s Carla Denyer secured a victory in Bristol Central. The SNP is forecast to lose significant ground, dropping from 43 seats to just six.
