UNILORIN Expels 6 Final Year Students, Rusticates 13 Others over Misconduct

The University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has taken disciplinary action against 19 students, including six final-year students, for their involvement in various offences, leading to expulsion or rustication from the institution.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the university, Kunle Akogun, the decision to expel or rusticate the affected students was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole (SAN), following recommendations from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee during its 220th and 221st meetings.

The statement outlined a range of offences committed by the affected students, including misconduct, theft, examination malpractices, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, and admission racketeering.

Penalties imposed on the students varied depending on the gravity of their offences, with some facing rustication for either one semester or a complete academic session, while others were expelled from the university.

Among the expelled students were individuals found guilty of offences such as examination malpractice and theft. They include Amatokwu Evans from the Department of Art Education, Nwachukwu Chinedu Joshua from the Department of Biochemistry, Oshinboluro Temitope Joshua from the Mathematics Department, Sulaimon Mayowa from Biochemistry, and Okanle Oluwatimileyin Samuel from the Physiotherapy Department.

On the other hand, those rusticated included students from various academic levels and departments.

Notable among them were Adebayo Adeleke (Performing Arts), Hassan Hanan Adebola (History and International Studies), Ayodele Samuel Koseunti (History and International Studies), Toki Opeyemi Ayomide (History and International Studies), Makinde Usman Ayomide (Linguistic and Nigerian Languages), and Onibiyo Eniola Gideon (History and International Studies).

Others who faced rustication were Badmus Rasheedat Ajoke (Chemistry), Afolayan Damilola (Mathematics), Ajibola Oluwaseyi Temiloluwa (Engineering & Technology), Akorede Isiaka Nifemi (Mathematics), Bolanta Taiye Zainab (Industrial Relations and Personnel Management), Elegede Favour Emmanuel (Physiology), Ojelabi Ibukunoluwa Micheal (Anatomy), and Okeke Ruth Chinecherem (Performing Arts).
