Lagos, Nigeria – The United States Mission in Nigeria announced on Monday, May 4, 2026, that all visa applicants will undergo continuous security vetting throughout the validity period of their approved visas.
Okay News reports that the United States Mission in Nigeria published a statement on the social media platform X detailing the multi-layered screening process used by authorities to evaluate a visa applicant’s background, criminal history, and terrorism risk.
“All visa applicants, no matter the visa type and where they are located, are continuously vetted,” the United States Mission in Nigeria said.
“Security vetting runs from the time of each application, through adjudication of the visa, and afterwards during the validity period of every issued visa, to ensure the individual remains eligible to travel to the United States,” the organization said.
The vetting process applies to all applicants regardless of specific visa type or physical location to evaluate security concerns and ensure individuals remain eligible to travel.
