Namitra Bwala, the student who was bullied by her classmates in a viral video, has initiated legal proceedings against Lead British International School, Gwarimpa, Abuja.

The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, seeks damages from the school for its alleged failure to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

The lawsuit, filed under case number FCT/HC/CV/2341/24, accuses the school of negligent conduct and breach of duty of care, leading to the highly publicized bullying incident. The plaintiff is seeking a public apology from the school, as well as N500,000,000 (Five Hundred Million Naira) in general damages for the emotional distress, pain, and trauma suffered.

The law firm representing Bwala, Marvin Omorogbe & Associates, emphasized that the lawsuit aims to hold the school accountable for its actions and prompt meaningful changes to prevent similar occurrences in the future. “Our client hopes that this lawsuit will bring about drastic changes and adequate measures to prevent a reoccurrence of similar issues in the school,” the statement added.
