White House Blames Political Rhetoric for Shooting at Dinner

WASHINGTON, DC, USA – The White House blamed a “left-wing cult of hatred” for a shooting during a gala correspondents dinner in Washington, DC, attended by President Donald Trump on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Okay News reports that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the suspect involved in the incident is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 27, 2026.

Leavitt described the shooting as the third assassination attempt targeting Republican Trump in the past two years. She stated, “The left-wing cult of hatred against the president and all of those who support him and work for him has gotten multiple people hurt and killed, and it almost did so again this weekend.”

During a briefing held at the Brady Press Briefing Room, Leavitt argued that there has been “systemic demonization” of the 79-year-old president. She said, “Nobody in recent years has faced more bullets and more violence than President Trump.”

Leavitt stated, “Those who constantly, falsely label and slander the president as a fascist, as a threat to democracy, and compare him to Hitler to score political points, are fueling this kind of violence.”

The White House noted that those who have previously compared Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler include his own Vice President JD Vance, during his opposition to Trump in 2016.
