White House on Lockdown After Nearby Shooting

The White House is currently on lockdown following a shooting around 3pm local time, so no-one can go in or out. A shooter opened fire at the White House complex this afternoon in Washington, D.C., USA. The treasury building is also on lockdown.

Officers engaged the suspect and shot him in the abdomen after he brandished a weapon at them. He has been taken to the hospital. Security level was raised to code red but has now been downgraded.

The U.S. Park Police reported the incident via their Twitter page. Reports state the operations are focused near the White House, around 30 meters from it.

President Obama is not in the White House.
