Obasanjo Becomes First African Chairman Of Council Of World Ex Presidents

Former President of Nigeria, Chief Mathew Olusegun Okikiola Obasanjo, has been appointed the new Chairman of the Council of World ex-Presidents.
Obasanjo thus beomes the first African to occupy that position.
The former Nigerian president was appointed at the 32nd annual plenary meeting of world ex-presidents which took place in Newport, United Kingdom recently.
He took over from Franz Vranitzky, a former Chancellor of Austria (1986-1996) before he later became the Chairman of the Council from 1st July 2010 to June 2016.
Obasanjo’s predecessors are:
(1) Helmut Schmidt of Germany.
(2) Malcolm Fraser of Australia.
(3) Jean Chretien of Canada;
(4) Franz Vranitzky of Austria.
Obasanjo of Nigeria, thus became the fifth Chairman of the world body.
