Kompany

The 30-year-old travelled to Barcelona earlier this week to be assessed by the highly-regarded Dr Ramon Cugat, and has now been told he faces at least a month out.

Kompany being assessed

Vincent Kompany’s latest injury setback will keep him out of action for four to six weeks, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed.

The Belgian defender made his first Premier League start since April against
Crystal Palace last weekend after overcoming thigh and groin issues.

But he lasted only 37 minutes before limping off the Selhurst Park pitch having suffered a knee ligament injury in a collision with goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

“Dr Cugat confirmed what the doctors here said,” Guardiola said ahead of his side’s trip to Burnley on Saturday.

“It is a ligament problem. He will be four to six weeks out.”
It is Kompany’s 35th separate injury problem since he joined the club in 2008 and the third to have affected him this season.

He missed the start of the campaign with a thigh problem picked up against Real Madrid in May and then suffered a groin injury on his comeback in the EFL Cup clash at Swansea in September.

As well as his captain, Guardiola could also be without striker Sergio Aguero against Burnley.

The Argentine played against Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday but has picked up a minor foot problem and will be monitored during training on Friday afternoon.

“Sergio finished the game not injured but he has a problem in his foot,” Guardiola said.

“Today he has training at 4 o’clock and we will know exactly his condition and the condition of the other players.

“We played the last game not far away and we have tomorrow a game at 12.30. So I am going to wait to see their condition, Pablo Zabaleta as well.”
