Romelu Lukaku will not sign a new contract with Everton, according to manager Ronald Koeman.

Lukaku’s future at Everton is in doubt following an interview he gave last month in which he said he has already decided his plans for the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of Everton’s Premier League game against Burnley at the weekend, Koeman said the Belgium international, who is contracted until 2019, will not sign a new deal making a transfer a strong possibility.

“He is doing really well. He’s a great finisher,” Koeman said.

When asked if he was aware of the striker’s plans he added: “No. He told me he won’t sign a new contract.”

The 23-year-old is the Premier League’s top goal scorer and has been nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award leading to reported interest from clubs including Chelsea.

Didier Drogba has backed Lukaku to return to Stamford Bridge this summer and said he knows where he will play next season.

Koeman added: “Maybe I wait for the call from Drogba to tell me where he wants to go.”
