Award-winning Nigerian literary icon, Chimamanda Adichie, has launched “Wear Nigerian’’ project, geared toward promoting made-in-Nigeria outfits.

The author said on her Facebook page that she has opened an official Instagram page and with it, she planned to promote the “Wear Nigerian’’ initiative.

She said “I am now on Instagram at chimamanda_adichie, documenting my `Wear Nigerian’ project.

“In that spirit, I wear mostly Nigerian brands for my public appearances.

“In the past few weeks, I bought more Nigerian brands than I ever had in the past and I have discovered new names.

“I have been filled with admiration for the women and men running their businesses despite the many challenges they face.

“I am particularly interested in ‘inward-looking’ brands, those for whom dressing Nigerian women is as important as other goals.’’

Born on Sept. 15, 1977 in Enugu and raised in Nsukka near the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Adichie is a Nigerian writer of reputable novels, short stories and nonfiction.

Her popular books include “Purple Hibiscus’’, “Americanah’’ and “Half of A Yellow Sun.’’

She was described in the Times Literary Supplement as `the most prominent of a procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors that is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature”.
