Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu says the Ministry of Education has developed a Ministerial Strategic Plan (MSP) that will revive the education system.

This is according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

The education minister said one of the major areas of the plan was the basic level of the education system, adding that the plan will not just address the issue of the out-of-school children but to ensure that children in schools were taught.

Adamu added that the plans were underway to attract best brains to the teaching profession.

According to him, one of the ways is to offer scholarship to those pursuing teaching education at the tertiary level and when employed into teaching, should enjoy enhanced salary.

The minister described the inability of some states to access Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention fund as ‘unfortunate’.
Counterpart funding

He said that government was considering reducing percentage counterpart fund paid by states to ease their access to the fund.

He, however, said that the Federal Government was taking steps to make states pay serious attention to the development of basic education.

The minister said that steps were being taken to ensure academic stability at the tertiary level.

He said that the governing councils of tertiary education had been constituted, while visitation panels would soon be constituted as required by law.
