PDP: Ali Modu Sheriff Dissociates Self From Purported Congratulatory Message to Makarfi Over Supreme Court Ruling

Ousted ex-chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has distanced himself from the purported congratulatory message sent to incumbent Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, after Wednesday’s Supreme Court ruling.

The judgement recognized the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of PDP; sacking the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

The court ruling was hailed as victory for democracy by prominent members of the party including immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

Few hours after the apex court ruling, reports in the traditional media and social media platforms had indicated that Senator Sheriff tweeted a congratulatory message to Makarfi, pledging to work with him in the interest of the party.

However, the former Borno State Governor has dissociated himself from the report even as described the said congratulatory message as fake.
No twitter account

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Honourable Bernard Mikko, Sheriff said he owned no twitter account and therefore couldn’t have used the platform to congratulate anybody.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fake congratulatory message credited to an imaginary Twitter Handle of Senator (Dr.) Ali Modu Sheriff, the immediate past PDP National Chairman.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff do not have or own a Twitter account and could not have tweeted any message.

“We therefore view the said message as fake and mischievous and should be discountenanced as that of evil doers.

“We further warn all mischief makers to desist from trying to exploit the huge political capital of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff for selfish gains,” the statement reads.
