French striker Karim Benzema may be on the sidelines for the next six weeks according to reports in the Spanish media.

The Real Madrid player pulled up short and later went off after picking up a hamstring injury in Saturday’s game against Levante.

“Following tests carried out on Karim Benzema at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury in the semimembranosus of his right leg.

“His recovery will continue to be assessed,” an official Madrid statement read.

Benzema copped the injury while trying to control a pass. He was replaced by Gareth Bale.

The injury means he would be unavailable for the Uefa Champions League game against APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday.
