Pep Guardiola says Jose Mourinho should not blame the referee for Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to rivals City on Sunday.

The Portuguese had earlier said that the Etihad team were lucky to have won the match.

He said City won because referee Michael Oliver failed to award a penalty for Otamendi’s challenge on Ander Herrera in the second half.

However, Guardiola believes his side played well and deserved the three points.

“Last season it was the same, we won here and it was the referee. Today as well. Yesterday he spoke about the referee,” Guardiola said.

“We are an honest team. We had 75 percent ball possession, which means we wanted to play. We came here and did that.”

The Spanish manager is still unfazed by his team’s 11-point lead at the zenith of the league.

Guardiola said they are looking forward to the games during the Yuletide season.

He said: the “win means a lot in the way we played for our confidence but in three days we go to Swansea in the winter time.

“We are going to face a lot of difficulties. In December it’s impossible to be champions but it’s good for us.”
