Nigerian Striker, Fred Friday has been asked to leave his Dutch top division side, AZ Alkmaar.

The club has opened the exit door for Fred to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

The player failed to impress since his move to the club two years ago.

Fred joined the team from Norwegian side Lillestroem for a fee in the region of €1.5m.

He scored just seven league goals for the team in 28 games.

He spent the second half of last season on loan to Sparta Rotterdam where he scored four goals in 14 league games which were insufficient to help them maintain their top-flight status.

According to Owngoal, the 23-year-old has been told in clear terms that he is no longer needed by coach John van den Brom.

He was left out of the squad for the weekend game against Emmen.

The coach has decided to put his trust in 17-year-old forward, Myron Boadu as Fred has failed to convince him.
