Ganduje speaks on 9 abducted children in Kano

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has condemned the kidnap of 9 Muslim children in the state.

A report had emerged that nine children were abducted in Kano and taken to Onitsha in Anambra State where they were sold.

Ahmed Iliyasu, the Commissioner of Police in the state, confirmed the incident stating that it has arrested one Paul Owne, 37, Mercy Paul, 38, Emmanuel Igwe, 34, Ebere Ogbodo, 45, Louis Duru, 30, and Monica Oracha, 50, while trying to take one of the kidnapped victims, Haruna Bako to Anambra State.

Speaking on the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ganduje said that those behind the abduction would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

He noted that protection of human rights, irrespective of age, ethnicity, religious or political affiliations, is a strong pillar and a vital responsibility of any government.

Ganduje said: “Government will invite the parents of those rescued from the suspected kidnappers for further discussion and relationship.

“At the same time, we are seriously working with security agencies to unearth similar cases.

“We are coming up with a powerful committee that will critically look at this disturbing scenario with a view to seeing to the root cause and to avert recurrence.

“This and similar crimes must be stopped.”
