Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), one of the largest oil and natural gas producers in Nigeria has revealed that the company has invested over $860 Million in Nigerian local content only in 2021.

This was disclosed in Chevron Nigeria’s 2021 Corporate Responsibility report made available to Okay.ng on Wednesday.

According to the report, the company’s investment in Nigerian Content was approximately $863,110,905.70, with approximately $214,418,107.76 spent on materials and services provided by local Community Contractor.

“At Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), we demonstrate commitment to the socioeconomic development of Nigeria by building mutually beneficial partnerships and supporting the Federal Government’s Nigerian Content Development (NCD) policies.

“We build the capacities of Nigerian businesses by allocating substantial scopes of our major capital projects to Nigerian companies. CNL supports the growth of the Nigerian economy by contributing to the development of communities in our areas of operation.

“It is noteworthy that we operate this way not just because the law requires it but also because it is ethical. Our four-pronged approach to NCD:

“We help to improve the capacities and capabilities of Nigerian companies by providing opportunities to many of them in facilities design, fabrication, construction, and installation, human capacity development and facility acquisition. We also provide opportunities for local community contractors through work scope reservation and allocation in our capital projects. We believe that our business success is intricately connected to the success of our communities. That is why we continue to help build the capacities of our local contractors and Nigerian businesses in general – supporting the Nigerian Content (NC) policy of the Federal Government,

Furthermore, the report said: “CNL will continue its commitment to the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content (NOGICD) Act as part of our support for local capacity building as well as play a leading role in building and sustaining the capacity of indigenous companies and contractors in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

“We consistently demonstrate our commitment to empowering Nigerian service providers and suppliers through human and institutional capacity development, creation of local jobs, developing and sourcing from local suppliers, employing local workforce, local patronage, work scope reservation to benefit local community contractors from our areas of operation and fostering of business partnerships.

“Our business strategy establishes Chevron Nigeria as a compliant partner of choice that helps build local economies and improve the livelihood of Nigerians. Additionally, the company provides technical and asset acquisition support to local community contractors and partnerships on research and development with Nigerian companies. These have helped the country to build wealth from the oil and gas proceeds and develop the local commerce and industry.“

CNL partnered with several Nigerian companies to build and strengthen local capacity and capabilities through the following projects and initiatives:

escravos export system project (EESP)

The contract for the engineering and fabrication of two Single Point Mooring (SPM) buoys was awarded to Fenog Nigeria Limited, a community contractor. The company also provided support to Fenog in the execution of the project by deploying its SPM specialist to provide guidance through the engineering and fabrication stages of the project. This resulted in significant engineering and ~600,000 injury free fabrication man-hours for the SPMs. The SPMs are installed offshore at 27m and 30m water depths.

Fenog benefitted and built incountry capacity through:

Infrastructure Facility Upgrade: Fenog Yard was upgraded to handle significantly higher tonnage (SPM buoys each weighed ~300 tons).

Design, Fabrication, T&I for SPM Buoys: Fenog developed engineering capability to meet required skills by hands-on (On-theJob) training, proficiency in the use of software such as AutoCAD, SACS, MATHCAD, PRIMAVERA, as well as yard fabrication and loadout skills for mid/high tonnage modules.
