The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal’s budgetary allotment will be reviewed upwardly, according to the House of Representatives Committee on Commerce (CCPT).

The committee also requested that the tribunal’s decision against Multichoice Nigeria Ltd. regarding “Pay-As-You-Go” be put into effect.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, Ayotomiwa Ayodele, Head of Corporate Communications and Strategy Unit at CCPT, revealed this.

She said that the legislators agreed to investigate the tribunal’s protest on the reduction in its 2023 budgetary provision with a view to revisiting the allocation.

Rep. Femi Fakeye, the chairman of the House Committee, praised the tribunal for its work during the year under consideration.

The CCPT Chairman, Hajia Saratu Shafii, was quoted in the announcement as noting that the tribunal’s 2023 budget had been reduced by 38%.

In order for the tribunal to give better services, Shafii encouraged the committee to examine the budget and use its power of allocating funds to improve the tribunal’s lots.

According to the statement, the congressman took advantage of the chance to learn more about Multichoice Nigeria Ltd.’s involvement in one of the significant issues that were presented before the tribunal.

She claims that the three-person panel’s chairman, Hon. Thomas Okosun, emphasized the tribunal’s decisions as well as a recent ruling on Multichoice’s request for a stay of execution.

She confirmed that the committee also charged the tribunal with enforcing the “Pay-As-You-Go” policy in order to stop Multichoice subscribers across the nation from paying excessive amounts for services they weren’t using.
