Vincent Kompany has responded to speculation that he’s on the shortlist to become the next Chelsea manager. The 37-year-old has been one of many head coaches to be linked with replacing Frank Lampard in the summer, with Todd Boehly eager to find the perfect candidate.

Julian Naglesmann emerged as an early favourite to fill the vacancy at Stamford Bridge but, as negotiations prolonged broke down, talks eventually broke down. Luis Enrique was also name-checked in relation to the position in west London but he subsequently distanced himself from the role.

The likes of Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti were mentioned too, though the latter ruled himself out of contention. Now, according to The Times, Mauricio Pochettino is joined by Burnley boss Kompany and Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou on Chelsea’s three-man shortlist, with the Argentine the frontrunner.

Following Burnley’s 2-1 defeat to QPR this weekend, the former Manchester City boss was quizzed on his future at Turf Moor, but he insisted that he’s only focused on winning matches. Kompany has led the Clarets back into the Premier League this season, having already secured automatic promotion.

“I said I’m not engaging on any of these conversations,” the Belgian said. “I have too much at this moment in time in my head in terms of wanting to win football matches. That’s the only thing I care about.”

Okay.ng understands that Kompany was heavily linked with taking the helm at Tottenham not too long ago.
