The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is now in their custody.

This revelation comes just hours after the DSS initially stated that Emefiele was not in detention.

In an official statement issued by Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesperson, it was announced that Emefiele is now being held by the secret police for investigative reasons.

The statement reads, “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.”

The DSS has urged the public, particularly the media, to exercise utmost caution in reporting and narratives surrounding this development.

The suspension of Godwin Emefiele was announced on Friday evening by President Bola Tinubu. Willie Bassey, the director of information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), made the official announcement regarding the suspension.

Following Emefiele’s suspension, the Deputy Governor of the Operations Directorate, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, has assumed responsibility for the affairs at the CBN.
