Nigeria’s leading energy company, Shell, has made a significant leadership change with the appointment of Mr. Ralph Gbobo as the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas Limited (SNG), effective from July 1, 2023. Ralph Gbobo succeeds Ed Ubong, who has assumed a new role within the Shell group.

Prior to this appointment, Ralph Gbobo held the position of Manager, Commercial and Non-Operated Venture at The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) and served as the Shell Shareholders Representative for seven onshore non-operated venture assets of SPDC.

With an extensive background in the oil and gas industry, Ralph brings a wealth of experience to SNG, which operates as part of the Shell Energy business line in Nigeria.

Markus Hector, General Manager of Shell Energy Nigeria, commented on Ralph’s appointment, stating, “Ralph’s appointment is a product of diligence, competence and commitment to Shell’s core values and our drive to powering progress by delivering more and cleaner energy to businesses in Nigeria.”

In his new role, Ralph Gbobo will assume responsibility for leading SNG and driving its domestic gas growth ambitions while ensuring safety remains paramount.

He is deeply passionate about unlocking the potential of the domestic gas-to-energy value chain to support Nigeria’s economic development.

Expressing his thoughts on the appointment, Ralph Gbobo stated, “I am humbled and determined to foster innovation, promote sustainable growth, and create shared value for all stakeholders. Through collaboration, we will spearhead advancements, empower communities, and showcase outstanding performance, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and more promising energy future for Nigeria.”

During his 21-year career at Shell, Ralph Gbobo has gained extensive experience across various roles within the organization.

He has traversed the downstream sector, focusing on crude and products supply and trading development, and has held key positions in the upstream, including Commercial Manager for Crude Handling and Gas Integration Manager.

Ralph Gbobo holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering and an MBA, which further enhances his expertise in the energy industry. Additionally, he possesses a strong commitment to nurturing talent and leads a diverse team dedicated to bridging the energy gap in Nigeria.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ralph Gbobo is a devoted father to four sons and a man of diverse interests. He enjoys activities such as fishing, sailing, traveling, and golfing.
