Former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is currently receiving intensive care treatment after experiencing a brain hemorrhage. The 52-year-old, who was on vacation in Croatia, is reportedly being treated at a local hospital.

Ajax, the Eredivisie club where van der Sar previously served as the chief executive, provided an update on his condition, stating that he is in a stable state. The former Netherlands international, known for his impressive career that included 130 appearances for his country, is now undergoing medical care and recovery.

The club expressed their well wishes, stating, “Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.” Van der Sar stepped down from his position as Ajax’s chief executive in May following the team’s third-place finish in the Dutch league, which resulted in their failure to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2009.

Having retired from professional football after leaving Manchester United in 2011, Van der Sar transitioned to a role on the Ajax board in 2012. Subsequently, he assumed the position of the club’s chief executive in 2016.

During his playing career, Van der Sar made 266 appearances for Manchester United, contributing to their success in clinching three Premier League titles and winning the prestigious Champions League in 2008. He also played in the Premier League for Fulham and had a stint in Serie A with Juventus.

The football community and fans worldwide are undoubtedly hoping for a swift recovery for the revered goalkeeper, who has left an indelible mark on the sport.
