Renowned Nigerian music sensation, Tiwa Savage, is set to make her debut in Nollywood with the upcoming film titled “Water and Garri.”

The movie, produced by Everything Savage and Unbound Studios, will be released on Amazon Prime Video, marking the award-winning singer’s first foray into acting.

Directed by Meji Alabi and shot in Ghana, “Water and Garri” is a significant addition to Prime Video Nigeria’s growing collection of high-quality Nollywood entertainment.

The film introduces Tiwa Savage as Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer who returns to her home country after a decade in the United States following the loss of a family member.

Aisha’s journey unfolds against a backdrop of changes at home, including increased violence and rising tensions.

The character must grapple with scars, confront guilt, and navigate reconnections with family, old friends, and a former love.

The film features a talented cast, including Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde, blending cinematography and storytelling to deliver a compelling narrative.

Ayanna Lonian, Director of Content Acquisition at Prime Video, expressed enthusiasm about the new film, stating, “Audiences around the world are hungry for well-made, contemporary African stories, and ‘Water and Garri’ delivers that with a novel viewpoint. Both Meji Alabi, as film director, and Tiwa Savage, as the lead, have truly delivered a stellar debut alongside the rest of the incredibly talented cast and crew.”

Tiwa Savage shared her excitement about the project, stating, “My film, from an idea to launching globally on Prime Video, is a dream fulfilled. I am excited for my fans and newer audiences to experience this vulnerable side of me that I have never shown.”

Jimi Adesanya, producer and Unbound Studios executive, expressed the studio’s thrill in collaborating with Prime Video, saying, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Prime Video who understood this cultural milestone celebrating the cross-power of film and music, especially out of Africa at this exciting time.”
