Bauchi Police Issue Wanted Notice For Bauchi Cleric, Idris Abdulaziz

The Bauchi State Police Command has issued a wanted notice for cleric Idris Abdulaziz, citing contempt of court.

The announcement, made through a Special Police Gazette, includes details and a reward pledge for assistance in his arrest.

Abdulaziz’s lawyer, Mr. Ahmad Musa, condemned the police declaration, alleging state-sponsored suppression of opposition voices.

Musa accused the Bauchi State Government of politically targeting his client, citing fresh charges filed against him.

The cleric, facing allegations of inciting disturbances and insulting religious creed, denies the charges.

Despite going into exile following a raid on his residence, Abdulaziz’s legal battles continue. His lawyer highlights a pattern of persecution by the state government, pointing to ongoing legal proceedings.

Abdulaziz, a prominent Islamic cleric, sparked controversy last April with remarks questioning the need for support from religious figures during difficult times.

While supported by Sunni sect members, rivals from the Sufi sect have demanded prosecution, leading to state intervention in the case.
