The former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, is set to be arraigned on charges of bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the alleged acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38 billion in bribes.

The Kano High Court has scheduled the arraignment for April 17, 2024, and Ganduje will be joined by his wife and six other individuals as co-defendants.

The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, confirmed the impending legal action and stated that the state government is prepared to present 15 witnesses to testify in the case.

The criminal suit was initiated by the Kano State Government against the eight respondents.

Dederi emphasized the importance of accountability in governance, noting that no one can evade accountability forever. He stressed that the case against Ganduje serves as a deterrence to others in government.

Additionally, Dederi addressed the jurisdictional aspect of the case, asserting that the offence falls under the category of state offences, contrary to Ganduje’s claims.

This development comes amidst previous attempts to halt investigations into Ganduje’s alleged misconduct. Despite challenges, the Kano State Government remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice.
