In a bid to streamline operations and alleviate congestion at Lagos Ports, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has introduced a new policy granting a 72-hour access window for export trucks to access various terminals.

The initiative, aimed at facilitating the timely movement of export cargo, requires export cargo trucks to access the ports within the specified time frame.

Failure to do so will result in the automatic deactivation of access tickets, as outlined by the NPA.

In a notice titled ‘Important Update: Revised Access Window for Left-Pregated Export Trucks,’ issued by the management of Truck Transit Parks Limited (TTP) on behalf of the NPA, stakeholders were informed of the new policy’s implementation, effective from April 22, 2024.

According to the notice, the objective of the policy is to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion around port access roads by optimizing the timing of export cargo truck movements.

“The Nigerian Ports Authority has issued an important notice for all stakeholders in the port ecosystem. Effective Monday, April 22, 2024, a policy will be implemented regarding access to the port terminals for left-pregated export trucks,“ the notice reads.

“All left pregated export trucks will now have only 72 hours to access the designated terminal after leaving the Export Processing Terminal. Failure to access the port within a 72hour window will result in the automatic deactivation of the truck’s access ticket.”

Furthermore, truckers are encouraged to plan their schedules accordingly to ensure compliance with the designated timeframe and avoid disruptions in accessing the port terminals.
