The House of Representatives has been urged to intervene in the Plateau State House of Assembly dispute, where some newly elected members have not been sworn in due to a controversial requirement by the Speaker.

The motion, moved by Ahmed Wase, represents Wase Federal Constituency of Plateau State. The House has pledged to investigate and review the situation to ensure equity, fairness, and justice.

The dispute involves 16 members whose Certificates of Return were nullified by the Court of Appeal, and new members were issued Certificates of Return by INEC.

However, the Speaker is requiring the new members to submit resignation letters and court affidavits as a condition for their swearing-in, which is seen as undermining democracy and fairness.

The House’s intervention aims to address the delays and biases in the swearing-in process and ensure that the voices of all constituencies in Plateau State are represented.
