The Kano State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of ₦99 billion after a third reading during plenary on Thursday.

The budget was initially presented by Governor Abba Yusuf on August 27, and was passed by the lawmakers to address key areas of development in the state.

In his submission of the proposal, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the supplementary budget is aimed at addressing the needs of the people, with a strong focus on infrastructure, human capital development, and improving health and education.

“This supplementary budget is not just about increasing spending; it’s about ensuring that we meet the needs of our people. We are focused on infrastructural development, enhancing human capital, and making significant improvements in the health and education sectors,” Yusuf said.

The breakdown of the supplementary budget includes ₦33.76 billion allocated for personnel costs, ₦34.49 billion for overhead expenses, and ₦30.97 billion dedicated to capital expenditure.

Speaking to journalists after the bill’s passage, Aminu Sa’ad, chairman of the committee on appropriations, highlighted that 58% of the budget will go toward capital expenditure, while 42% is earmarked for recurrent expenses.

Sa’ad also outlined that the supplementary budget will finance the upcoming local government elections, payments for the new minimum wage, as well as the running costs for newly established ministries and vocational institutions. Additionally, other government priority projects will be covered.

Jibril Falgor, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, commended the lawmakers for their dedication and swift passage of the bill.
