The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the death of Yahya Sinwar, a senior leader of Hamas, following a targeted strike in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.

The IDF had initially stated that it was investigating the possibility that Sinwar had been killed in the strike but later confirmed his death in an official post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to Fox News, the IDF had engaged suspected terrorists in Gaza before they fled into a building. Following the strike on that location, the IDF confirmed that Sinwar, who was 61, had been eliminated.

Sinwar, a key figure in Hamas, was widely considered to be one of the masterminds behind the October 7 attack that resulted in the massacre of Israeli civilians by Hamas militants.
