Uber has announced the launch of Store Pickups, a new feature under its Courier product aimed at simplifying same-day deliveries for consumers.

The service allows users to have prepaid parcels or purchased items collected from stores, making it easier to send or receive items within the same day.

In a statement, Tope Akinwumi, Country Manager for Uber Nigeria, said the new service reflects the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its consumers.

“We aim to stay close to the evolving needs of our consumer base and the introduction of Store Pickups with Courier demonstrates this understanding. With Courier, one can send or receive items and also have purchased items picked up in-store, providing convenience for consumers and allowing them to spend more time with loved ones this festive season,” Akinwumi said.

How Store Pickups Works

The service is designed to make the process seamless for users:

  1. Prepare the Item: Ensure the parcel or purchased item is ready for pickup.
  2. Book via the Uber App: Select “Courier,” choose whether to send or receive an item, and input the pickup and delivery addresses.
  3. Upload and Instruct: Users can upload a picture of the receipt and provide specific instructions for the delivery person.
  4. Monitor in Real-Time: Track the progress of the delivery through live updates on the app.

The feature also enables drivers to interact with stores on behalf of the customer, ensuring the pickup process is smooth and hassle-free.

Enhanced Safety Features

Uber has integrated key safety measures into the service. These include:

  • Live Tracking: Users can monitor their item’s journey from pickup to delivery.
  • PIN Verification: A unique PIN is provided to ensure the correct item is collected or delivered.

Current Availability

Store Pickups is currently available in Lagos, with plans to expand the service to other major Nigerian cities soon.
