Lagos Assembly Denies Renewed Defection Rumors

The Lagos State House of Assembly has once again dismissed reports that 25 of its members are planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for another political party. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security, and Strategy, released a statement on Tuesday reiterating the assembly’s position. This follows a previous denial issued on February 19th in response to similar claims.

Ogundipe described the latest allegations as completely untrue and without foundation, emphasizing that no APC member of the Lagos Assembly is considering defection.
“It is important to remember that similar rumors surfaced during the recent leadership disagreements within the Assembly, suggesting 27 members were preparing to join the Labour Party,” Ogundipe stated. “Those claims were also firmly rejected, with members reaffirming their loyalty to the APC and their commitment to resolving internal disputes through established procedures.”

He acknowledged that challenges may arise but stressed the assembly’s commitment to addressing them through democratic and legal means. Ogundipe also stated that the APC leadership is actively involved, and any unresolved issues will be resolved through amicable discussions.
“We urge the public to disregard these baseless reports, which are intended to mislead and create unnecessary anxiety,” he said.
Ogundipe reaffirmed the lawmakers’ unwavering loyalty to APC leader, President Bola Tinubu, and their dedication to the party’s principles.
